Boomtown Festival: The Weird, The Wonderful, The Love for Drum and Bass

Boomtown, Drum and Bass, Music, Festivals, Spotify, Bassline, Reggae

If you have never heard of this festival, well be prepared to be amazed by one of the weirdest but one of the best festivals you will ever go to. TRUST ME. As a man that went to last year’s edition, Boomtown never disappoints, especially if you are an avid drum and bass fan. These are the reasons why Boomtown should be on your list of festivals to go to this summer.

Boomtown takes place in a random field near Winchester in the south of England. Around the second weekend of August every year. With ravers from across the UK making the journey down to the south coast to have a weekend of a lifetime.

The Festival premise is exactly what it says on the tin, it is a town full of music. The town features eight unique districts that evolve every year. This years are: Origin, Old Town, Metropolis, Letsbe avenue, Grand Central, Botanica, Copperwood and Area 404.

What is incredible about Boomtown is that there are over 50 stages at the festival across these districts. My personal favourites were: The Origin stage where the opening and closing ceremony takes place and is considered the main stage, Tribe of the Frogs deep in the forest which has an incredible vibe to it. Spectrum 360 which is a 1000 person 360 stage, with the artists on a raised stage. As well as Wrong Side of the Tracks which is a rollercoaster themed stage.

These stages are announced just before the festival but some are kept secret until people get to the festival including the artists that are going to perform on them. This further adds to the wonder and beauty of Boomtown because you don’t know what is going to be at the festival till you get there.

These districts are all unique in design and inhabitants who are actors that play different roles in the town.

What is unique about Boomtown is the unique storyline that has continued since its first addition in 2009. This gives festival goers an interactive experience and meaning they go to every part of the festival. Music and a quest for what is more to love.

Now to the main event, THE MUSIC, Drum and Bass is obviously the big genre but there are other genres such as bassline, techno, reggae and rock that are all present at the festival. As well as this a special genre is added for each festival, last years was hip hop which was headlined by Loyle Carner. Making the festival easy for other music lovers to come to the festival.

Just like some of the stages, the artists are only announced a couple of weeks before the festival starts when most of the tickets are sold out. Now this may seem like a red flag for some festival goers but I bought my ticket before the line up was announced after my mates were saying that it will be worth it and most of the big hitters are there so it won’t disappoint. My god did it not disappoint.

The artists that featured last year were Drum and Bass royalty in the likes of Hedex, Dimension, Sub Focus, Andy C, Girls Dont Sync, A little Sound, Charlie Tee and last but not least Chase and Status who was announced half way through the festival. As well as other artists in bassline such as Sammy Virgi and Badger.

This festival is one of the best festivals in the world if you like electronic music. In my opinion it is right up there with Tomorrowland, EDC and Creamfields. You know what, I even think it is the best in the world. The story line, the vibe, the mystery that comes with it. It is the best electronic music festival in the world and you definitely need to go at least once in your life.

It won’t disappoint.
