It’s normal for a footballer to pursue alternative career paths once they hang up their boots, given the average retirement age for players at the top level. From acting, to management, punditry and coaching – all the way to hosting real estate television shows.
From the last example, everyone should already have Dion Dublin at the front of their minds. However, what you might not know is that Dublin also fancied himself as a bit of a musical entrepreneur – going as far as inventing and producing his own instrument!
The Dube is a percussion box that has different pitched surfaces and a range of sizes available to buy and play. Described by the ex-Premier League and England international as a ‘stylish cube percussion instrument, with four playable sides that each produce their own unique sound’.
When it launched just under 15 years ago, Dublin hoped it would take the music industry by storm, having some success at first even receiving endorsement from legend, Stevie Wonder – as seen below:
However, with very little information surrounding the current state of play regarding the instrument and the business, it may be a safe bet to assume that the venture has not gone well for the Homes Under the Hammer host.
After doing some (very quick) research, The Dube’s website no longer exists, with the domain having expired it may be safe to assume that Dublin’s time in the music industry may have also run its course.
Nevertheless, another fun (and slightly weird) way in which the worlds of sport and music combine. And if you happen to have bought a Dube in the past, you’ve got a real relic on your hands as there are currently none available on any platforms!
