Your first away day

PLAYLIST: Your first away day…

By Joseph Gainsford:

Our first away day playlist…

There has to come a point in every football loving teen’s life when they decide to brave the roads. They must endure hours of arduous travel to watch their beloved team play. Typically, it falls upon the friend who is first to pass their test to look beyond spending nights in McDonald’s drive-throughs; take a look at the fixture list and drive three hours on a Saturday morning to (for lack of a better phrase) the arse end of nowhere.

After acquiring the essentials, Stone Island clothing, Adidas Gazelles. You steal one of your dad’s crates of beer and you’re ready. A journey up the country to most likely see your side lose heavily would not be complete without the perfect playlist.

Football casual culture has an intrinsic link with Britpop and the music from the nineties. Plenty of Oasis and The Stone Roses are nothing less than mandatory to get yourself ready for a northern terrace on your first away day ever. After all, timeless classics that you may have heard your dad singing when you were younger that would have had you thinking ‘what’s this’ is exactly what you are after.

This playlist has been cleverly crafted to ensure that car journey up gives you a sense of belonging to the environment you’re entering. It may even have you believing that you’re going to take all three points but whether your team does or not is completely separate to the music.

We hope you enjoy,

The Equaliser.
