When it comes to the Women’s FA Cup and South Yorkshire, one name immediately stands out: Doncaster Rovers Belles. A true powerhouse of the early decades of the competition, their six FA Cup victories set a benchmark for others to aspire to. But the Belles’ glorious history is just one chapter in the FA Cup stories of the region’s clubs.   1. Doncaster Rovers Belles – WINNERS x6 – 1983, 1987,1988, 1990, 1992, 1994<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The Belles of course top the list as South Yorkshire\u2019s most successful club in the competition, and are in fact the third most successful club in the country, behind only Arsenal (14) and the Southampton Ladies (8) side of 70s. The Belles first won the competition back in 1983, beating St Helens 3-2 in front of 1,500 fans in Lincoln of all places. Two goals from founder of the club, Sheila Edmunds, along with a Jill Hanson goal were enough to topple the club who folded in 2006. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Belles lost three successive finals before getting their hands on the trophy again in 87\u2019, where they once again defeated St Helens. The club made it back-to-back cup triumphs with a 3-1 victory over Leasowe Pacific in 88\u2019, and then picked up their fourth cup in 90\u2019 with a 1-0 victory over Friends of Fulham.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Belles legend Karen Walker scored a hat trick in the 92 final over Red Star Southampton, a hat trick that meant Walker astonishingly scored a hat-trick in every round of the cup that year. The Belles’ final triumph came in 94, where they beat Knowsley United 1-0 thanks to a goal once again from Walker.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Belles made the Final in 2000, losing 2-1 to Croydon in front of 3,400 fans at Bramall Lane, and lost once more in 2002, this time against Fulham in front of over 10,000 fans at Selhurst Park. Since then, the Belles have failed to make any more finals. However, the 2013 final was held at the Eco-Power as Arsenal beat Bristol 3-0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
