
Multiple clubs across the region enjoyed successful campaigns, be it League titles or Cup finals. But who were the players that fired their clubs to glory? SYWF reveals the highest league scorers at each of the top clubs in South Yorkshire.
Maria Farrugia – Sheffield United – 20 Appearances – 4 Goals
While the Blades suffered a disappointing campaign this year, United’s Maltese international shone once again. She grabbed a brace in a win against Blackburn Rovers, and then scored the League’s goal of the season with an excellent finish against Bristol City.

Jasmine Saxton – Doncaster Rovers Belles – 20 Appearances 14 Goals
The Belles also endured a difficult season with relegation to Tier Five, however Jasmine Saxton continued to fire home the goals, with 14 in 20 appearances. Saxton has been the club’s top scorer for two years a row and picked up the Club’s Player’s Player of the Year award as well.
Jodie Snelson – Barnsley Women – 22 Appearances 17 Goals
Barnsley Women consolidated themselves in midtable with a solid sixth place finish in the League, thanks in part to Jodie Snelson’s 17 goals in 22 appearances. Jodie is an experienced striker, having featured previously in South Yorkshire for both Sheffield FC and Sheffield United, scoring 42 goals for the former in the 2011/12 season, when the side finished runners-up to Manchester City.

Jodie Gregory – Barnsley FC – 19 Appearances 7 Goals
After two successive promotions, the affiliated Barnsley side had to settle for a mid-table finish as they made the step-up to tier 4, but Jodie Gregory scored seven times across the campaign to ensure the side were safely in the middle of the pack.
Abby Watkinson – Handsworth 18 Appearances 36 Goals
Handsworth’s wing wizard had a season to remember, scoring at a rate of two per game as Handsworth narrowly missed out on the title by four points, including 6 goals in one game against Sheffield United Community Foundation.

Natalie Shaw – Brunsmeer Athletic 17 Appearances 35 Goals
Like Abby, Brunsmeer’s Natalie Shaw had an incredible season scoring at over two goals a game and picking up the league title. Four of Shaw’s goals came from the spot, while she also took home the match ball four times.
Amy Broomhead – Sheffield Wednesday 16 Appearances 12 Goals
Sheffield Wednesday’s top scorer was once again striker Amy Broomhead. While she might not have matched the 44 goals in 22 games of the year prior, Broomhead still led the line and notched 12 goals from 16 games.

Millee Herbert-Clarke – SJR Worksop – 11 Appearances 12 Goals
12 goals in just 11 appearances for SJR Worksop’s Herbert-Clarke, helped the side maintain their Tier Five status after promotion the year prior. SJR endured a difficult start to the year, however fought back in the middle part of the year, and even picked up silverware with the League Plate.

Stacey Buxton – Sheffield FC – 13 Appearances 9 Goals
Buxton led the line for Sheffield FC as they stormed to the title this year, only losing once across their 16 league games. Buxton scored some crucial goals on route to the title, including the winner in a 3-2 victory against SJR.

Alesha Gale – Rotherham United Women – 13 Appearances 10 Goals
Rotherham United’s young star Alesha Gale, who has represented England Colleges, continued her rise through the ranks with an impressive 10 goals in the league alone, while she also bagged 4 in the cups. Her individual brilliance which led to the Millers finishing third, also landed her the club’s Player of the Year award.
