During a challenging campaign for Tottenham Hotspur Women in the 2024–25 Women’s Super League (WSL), there was one consistent figure who stood out with consistency, leadership, and determination – Bethany England.
Born in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England carried the pride of her hometown with her into every match. As Spurs captain and the club’s top scorer, she once again showed why she is among the WSL’s most lethal forwards.
England’s season statistics speak for themselves. She finished the season with eight goals and one assist in 19 WSL appearances, scoring at a rate of 0.40 goals per game. She played a total of 1,378 minutes, notching nearly half of Spurs’ overall goals in a difficult season. While the team finished 11th in the league, England’s individual form and work rate never dipped.
She also played every game in Spurs’ run to the Quarter Final of the League Cup, where they won all three of their group games before being defeated by West Ham.
December was also an exemplary month in her campaign, where she scored all of Tottenham’s WSL goals, showcasing her importance to the side. Her ability to perform when it mattered most was also evident on the final day of the season, where she added to her record of six goals in final-day encounters – the highest in WSL history alongside fellow Lioness Fran Kirby.
Installed as club captain in September 2023, England took to her leadership role with determination and grace. As Spurs integrated younger players and transitioned through managerial changes, her experience and presence on and off the field were invaluable. The armband suited her, providing a sense of responsibility and purpose that only enhanced her game even further.

England captaincy is more than strategic; her performances were driven by pride and passion. Her roots in South Yorkshire remain at the center of her being as a player, and she frequently refers to the values and work ethic she learned as a child in Barnsley. Whether she is celebrating goals or exhorting her team in tough games, her dedication is unquestionable.
Looking ahead, Bethany England’s future in the WSL remains bright. Still just 30, she has the perfect balance of experience and edge, and with a decent pre-season under her belt, there’s every chance she’ll return next season even stronger. Her performances still inspire young footballers throughout South Yorkshire and beyond, especially in communities where football is a lifeline and a dream.
Bethany England is not just a Spurs star – she’s a beacon of inspiration for the next generation of North-based players. And to SYWF, she represents everything the region stands for: talent, grit, and unwavering pride.
