He shares his journey in television, tips to pass on and what the jump is like from a runner to a researcher.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d49fe1e293f50fc15be5d9653385d4e3\">Working in television is something that people dream of doing, but for Jack that dream became a reality when he began working for Newsround in his third year studying Journalism, having originally pitched for a placement with them at a university careers event.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From placement to job:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7eabc7ddcbb65013d6167a4c0c10a60d\"><strong>\u201cI had one day of placement, then it turned into two placements and then it turned into a job.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-873102932cb9c788483d2b6814d06880\">\u201cIt was a dream come true! Everyone watches Newsround growing up and being able to pitch to them about a topic that was passionate to me was incredible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-1e5155c82b7a376aefee29991edb21c9\">To get that placement and then to develop it into a job, it was a whirlwind but I loved it!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9b0c210b2705dc47e958bf26b284f2c7\">Newsround marked the beginning of a varied career in TV, which included working on Naked Attraction, Countdown, and, more recently, Loose Women.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-eb5cf1e073405bd787bed21e9f0a5eca\">\u201cIt was never the plan to do a variety because I just wanted to keep working in TV.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-ff695a1ccc9269ae55ca1d3c1c6643ae\">That variety stemmed from an unexpected early opportunity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2d52da2b49a23fc0aa226d78eaf1d65d\">After originally signing up to do a Masters in TV Production just after the pandemic, Jack was offered a two-week job at the BBC for Children\u2019s in a Unit Runner Job.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-39d74d080a1448051b96fdba84c897b0\">\u201cThey would ship me onto different TV shows. One day I\u2019d be working on Justin\u2019s House, the next on Class Dismissed, the next on Blue Peter. (Credit- Jack Dinslay) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The step from runner to junior researcher&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-a5abd9a4d4968608e20c8b82fb549266\">On the typical production ladder, the next step up from runner would be a junior researcher, a role that Jack undertook.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-d30cf5c4ce434a1b5acbc01fbd9a1a2f\">Jack was working on Countdown as a runner and was speaking to his boss about his dream to work as a researcher. Within two hours, Jack was offered a junior researcher role on Countdown.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f539cae3c1b0c56d84ce9bcc942009a6\">\u201cHe said to me \u2018I heard what you had to say and I believed in you\u2019 which was brilliant!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-2ef5e7ee824ae57434fd7ffb67d7976e\">\u201cI got to interview people on the phone for Countdown, I even got to play Countdown on the phone too\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Becoming a researcher&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-25ee50094c0c02c7fa3a5cc3457bc583\">\u201cThe jump was hefty!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-28c53c1d267b67238cff7abf11bc81e5\">The next step up came when Jack grabbed a dream opportunity to work on Loose Women as a researcher.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-3b0cba850e0fea4e786a51d40a1a6528\">\u201cMy job was interviewing all of the guests. When I got anyone from the soap world that was my good day!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c3648b1e241d6f39823dd8c8c6836119\">\u201cHaving that natural knowledge of soaps, dramas, sport, whatever it is, have something you are specialised in because the office will rely on you for that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-40b75c9d886367edf06f1c414e15e57a\">\u201cHaving that legal knowledge too, because when you\u2019re briefing someone when they go out on air you need to know how things work with OFCOM.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Working on Loose Women&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-dfe9f1ea1d375fbde853b215afbff553\">\u201cI turned 25 when the show turned 25, that in itself was quite a pinch-me moment. It was Monday, I blinked, then it was the following Monday!\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-34d9b1c3b2831dab10fb9fb34a0a6c72\">There are over 20 different panellists that sit on the Loose Women panel, so Jack surely had his favourites.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5769732ffe7704c6c66c23280ea456ea\">\u201cI loved working with Judi Love, we just bounced off each other so well. (Credit- Jack Dinslay) <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Claims to fame:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-72c19a224a1f50a8d543dd5e2c1e53ef\">With working on so many different shows, Jack has his fair share of claim to fame.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-49fd985afde2a680067cd71c27edccd8\">\u201cI worked on a show called Hot Wheels and I\u2019m a massive wrestling fan and I got to look after Big E from WWE. I even got free tickets to one of the Smackdown events because they said I did such a good job looking after him.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-77499007b73fba3eec728057170991c0\">\u201cI worked on Naked Attraction. It was a very weird show, but they looked after every single contestant and crew with the utmost respect. I\u2019m very proud to have worked on that.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Tips for those aspiring:&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-752f9a6f877c1cda76933ca71f46618b is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0f8857216e7861add099b7dace73c539\"><strong>\u201cIt\u2019s long hours. You have to have that ability to ask questions, have that willingness because there\u2019s no such thing as a silly question.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-59ce6e1dc8b43797fab7beb5e0491289\">\u201cNetwork! Get people\u2019s emails, get people\u2019s phone numbers, and keep in touch with them and keep those contacts going.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-aabd2c280f71ac31468dea50ef4d4f3a\">\u201cWe\u2019re not saving lives, TV is fun.
