
For 2025, the BBC coverage was produced for the first time by the production company Sunset&Vine. Studio Insider has been granted access behind the gates to see what it’s like in a Sports Outside Broadcast compound.
Every year thousands of people flock to the Crucible Theatre for the World Snooker Championships, an annual competition that has been held in Sheffield since 1977.
For those unable to make it in person, the BBC provide coverage of every game of the tournament each year.
As a runner on the production, I was thrilled to play just a small part in coverage of the tournament. Whilst I have worked on other shows as a runner, this was my first time working on a sports broadcast.
My roles on the production ranged entirely from getting the stats sheets ready ahead of each session for the commentators, to refilling the urn to make sure crew members could have a hot drink during breaks in play. It was very varied, but very fun!

As someone currently in my final year of a journalism degree at university, it’s a great opportunity to experience working in live television, something which is not often possible until after graduating.
Working as a freelance TV Runner, has seen me do all sorts of weird and wonderful jobs.
Anything from buying shopping for the Gladiators, to sourcing props used on Loose Women and getting coffee for Hazel Irvine. I’ve done all sorts!
Plus, it’s always an exciting feeling seeing your name in the credits of a show you’ve worked on!
