A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office, urging Sheffield residents to prepare for significant snowfall and icy conditions from 7PM on November 18, to 10 AM on November 19.
Sheffield is set to be one of worst impacted areas in England with a snowstorm expected to hit the city.
The snowfall and icy conditions mark the beginning of a cold weather spell that is forecasted to escalate in the coming days.
According to Open Weather, parts of the country could see up to two inches of snow over the next six days, with Sheffield’s snowfall forecasted to peak on November 23.
The Met Office predicts snow accumulation of up to 5–10 cm at lower levels and 15–20 cm in higher-altitude areas, including the Yorkshire and Derbyshire peaks.
These conditions are likely to cause significant delays or cancellations to travel and public services.
Motorists are advised to be cautious and prepare for dangerous driving conditions.
The snowstorm may lead to power outages and interruptions to mobile phone coverage.
In addition to the snow, there is a possibility of ice forming on roads as temperatures drop overnight, increasing the risk of slips and falls.
Sheffield residents are advised to check for weather updates before setting off, avoid non-essential travel and stay informed by regularly monitoring updates from the Met Office and local authorities.
