Sheffield Wednesday faced a devastating defeat at Hillsborough this weekend, with a 6-2 defeat to play-off contenders Watford.

Vakoun Bayo was a key player, managing to net four goals. This puts his total up to five this season, only one shy of his championship total the season prior.

It was England’s Under-21 and Wednesday’s keeper James Beadle who took much of the blame. An extremely poor performance, undoubtedly being at fault for at least two of the goals.

Though Pol Valentín and Michael Smith contributed consultation goals, Wednesday remained only 3 points off of the drop.

The Blades, on the other hand, had an excellent weekend with a comfortable 2-0 win over goal-starved Blackburn.

It was the new men Harrison Burrows and Tyrese Campbell who made the difference on the day as both converted driven shots to the bottom right corner.

Sheffield United will continue their title charge midweek with a visit to Bristol, where they will hope to erode the gap between themselves and league leaders Sunderland.

Rotherham, unfortunately, fell short to Cheltenham, who are currently sitting 16th in League Two in the first round of the FA Cup.

Though Steve Evans rotated his side for the game, the result will come as a shock and will continue to intensify the pressure on his position.

The Millers will now prepare for a midweek South Yorkshire derby against Barnsley, who also featured in FA actions this weekend.

Barnsley managed to overcome League Two opposition with a healthy 3-1 away win against league contenders Port Vale.

Marc Roberts, Davis Keillor-Dunn, and Adam Phillips were the players to score in the more or less full-strength side.

The draw for the second round will occur tonight at 7:45 pm on BBC Two but is yet to include Championship and Premier League opposition.

Barnsley travelled to Barrow in the FA Cup first round and returned home with a 1-0 win, with 20-year-old Patrick Kelly getting a late winner.

This came in the wake of their victory over South Yorkshire rival Barnsley midweek in the EFL Cup. The result clearly infused the team with the confidence for an assured performance.

The Rovers will also be included in the draw for the second round, where fans will hope to see once more the magic of the FA Cup.
