A gospel choir is working to create a sense of community for residents through music.

After relocating from Southampton, Evee Ludbrook decided to start a new community gospel choir, having led one before.

Evee then started ‘Resound’, as a way to bring people together and unite a community.

The 33-year-old said: “One of my reasons for starting a gospel choir in the first place was the feeling that community is really lacking in modern life.

“People are living their lives independently, so there isn’t really a sense of  community.”

“I think there is a place for a balance between making a beautiful noise but also being a friendly choir where everybody feels welcome.”

After moving to Sheffield following her recent marriage Even struggled with making connections.

Evee said: “It’s been quite hard to meet friends, it’s been really lovely to meet people outside of the church.

“I absolutely love conducting, I love leading a choir and showing people they can sing even when they think they’re not very good at it and together we can make a really brilliant noise.”

The gospel choir began in September and gathers every Wednesday during term time at Richmond’s Church from 7:30 pm to 9:15 pm.

New members can enjoy the first two sessions for free for a chance to experience the group before committing without auditions.

Evee said: “Gospel music is so joyful and it’s such a nice way to brighten up your week.

“Music is really good for mental health, being involved in any sort of music but particularly singing is really really good for us.

“I like to pick things that either have warm beautiful harmonies or I look for something with a groove, something you can tap your foot to or clap along with because we’d love our audience to engage with the music.”

Evee said: “It is great to get people thinking a little bit about things of God and faith but the main thing is having fun and singing.”

Members don’t have to have any religious affiliations.

The group aims to perform their first concert at Richmond Church in February.

They are planning to organise a second for the summertime.

All donations raised from both events will be donated to a local charity.
