Authorities have received calls about masked men attempting to enter a property on North Street in Rawmarsh, Rotherham.
A sizable amount of cannabis was then uncovered after a report of an attempted break-in led police to the discovery.
South Yorkshire Police found signs of forced entry but no occupants.
Upon investigating further, a cannabis operation was discovered across multiple floors within the property.
Around 100 cannabis plants, each estimated to be worth £1,000, were found growing inside the home.
Amidst the search, officers found a 22-year-old man hiding amongst the plants within the loft area.
He was arrested on suspicion of cannabis production and remains in police custody as investigations continue.
The cannabis farm is scheduled to be dismantled, with all plants set for seizure and destruction on Wednesday, 13 November.
To avoid detection, the suspects had bypassed the property’s electricity supply, creating a substantial fire risk for surrounding residents. Inspector Lesley Fretwell of the Rotherham North Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasised the detrimental impact of these illegal grow operations.
Inspector Fretwell said: “We will continue in our efforts to create safer neighbourhoods for the Rotherham and South Yorkshire residents.”
