£100,000 cannabis factory discovered after attempted break-in

Authorities have been alerted about masked men trying to enter a property on North Street in Rawmarsh, Rotherham.

South Yorkshire Police uncovered a sizeable amount of cannabis after arriving at the scene. They also found signs of forced entry but no occupants.

Upon further investigation, a cannabis operation was discovered across multiple floors within the property.

Around 100 cannabis plants, each estimated to be worth £1,000, were found growing inside the home.

Amidst the search, officers found a 22-year-old man hiding amongst the plants within the loft area.

He was arrested on suspicion of cannabis production and remains in police custody as investigations continue.

The cannabis farm is scheduled to be dismantled, with all plants set for seizure and destruction on Wednesday, November 13.

To avoid detection, the suspects had bypassed the property’s electricity supply, creating a substantial fire risk for surrounding residents.

Inspector Lesley Fretwell of the Rotherham North Neighbourhood Policing Team emphasised the detrimental impact of these illegal grow operations.

He said:  “We will continue in our efforts to create safer neighbourhoods for the Rotherham and South Yorkshire residents.”

Other key indicators include blacked-out windows, excessive condensation, blocked letterboxes, and visitors at unusual hours.

Concerned residents are urged to report such activities to local authorities by calling 101 or 999 in emergencies. You report anonymously via Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
