With some of the best walks and trails, if you feel like shaking things up and getting some steps in- this is the list for you.
With more trees per person than any other city in Europe, and the Peak District right on the doorstep, Sheffield and the surrounding area has the best to offer.
Stanage Edge
A world-renowned climbing spot can be found on the city’s edge, just 6 miles from the city centre.
Stanage Edge has amazing views of the peaks and bouldering routes for many different abilities. It’s often referred to as the birthplace of the sport, with people travelling from all across the world to visit the attraction.
Rivelin Valley Trail
This two and a half mile walk is perfect for anyone that prefers shade with an array of beautiful sights and scenes of nature.
The trail follows the River Rivelin, with many people taking the plunge all year round. It is located only around 15 minutes from Sheffield city centre and it contains the historical remains of past mills and forges in the area.
Burbage
Burbage rocks are great for bouldering, with the rocks overlooking the town of Hathersage. With climbing for all levels, the gritstone edge is usually seen as the most accessible for intermediate climbers, while the southern edge of Burbage rocks includes harder climbs for those more experienced. The rocks were even used in the 1998 film “Hard Grit”.
Low Bradfield Reservoirs
Located only around a 20-minute drive from Sheffield, the village of Low Bradfield has two reservoirs closely surrounding it: Agden and Damflask.
With Agden reservoirs being a two and a half miles walk and Damflask being three and a half miles long. For a longer walk, both can be combined to make a longer six mile walk. All walks can be started from the Village with car parking and bus routes available.
All of these areas are never too far from a pub, restaurant or café to refuel before heading back home.
