Sheffield United hosted a heartfelt tribute to recently deceased club icon George Baldock.
Coupled with the tribute, current manager Chris Wilder and ex-teammate Enda Stevens led a one-minute silence before the Blades game against Middlesbrough.
Baldock spent the peak of his career at Bramall Lane being a part of the 3 different promotion campaigns. Two of which were under Chris Wilder during his first stint at the club.
Wilder said: “It’s been an emotional few weeks. I don’t think people understand the effect it has had on us because we worked with George.
“The people in the office staff, the people who worked at Shirecliffe that saw him every day. It was a big challenge for us all and a big challenge today.”
George Baldock, who recently passed away in his home in Athens, was ever present at the club in a 7-year stint, making a total of 205 appearances.
Enda Stevens said: “I spent six years with George, and it was the best time of my career with him. He was a warrior on the pitch.
“(George) set the tone, and he would create an environment and improve day by day, year by year. As a man himself, he was an absolute gentleman.”
Stevens himself spent 6 years at the club, for the most part being Baldock’s opposite number down the left flank.
Baldock’s aggressive, determined style of football will not be forgotten at the Lane, including his ever-present presence in a historic cup run in 2022/23.
His discipline and iconic moments have undoubtedly inspired a generation of young Blades fans.
Sheffield United went on to win the game convincingly after a recent slump, offering a beautiful send-off to our Starman.
