The Sheffield Steelers rallied from a slow start to secure a dominant 6-1 victory over the Dundee Stars, following a shaky first period in which they fell behind early.

The evening began with a display to honour Captain Robert Dowd, but the atmosphere quickly changed to one of concern as the Steelers struggled in the opening frame.

Drydn Dow put Dundee ahead in the 7th minute, beating Matthew Greenfield. The Steelers managed just four shots on target in a lackluster first period

A determined response in the second period saw the Steelers transform the game, firing 18 shots and netting three quick goals.

Dowd’s forecheck set up Sacha Guimond and Mitchell Balmas for the equaliser at 34:08. Just moments later, Patrick Watling made it 2-1 on the power play with a perfectly placed shot.

Mikko Juusola tipped in Kevin Tansey’s blue-line blast for a third goal after a video review confirmed the score.

The Steelers maintained their intensity in the third period, extending their lead just 3 minutes in as Juusola struck again, assisted by Angelo Miceli.

Despite a couple of penalties, Sheffield’s defensive play held true. Mitchell Balmas notched his second goal during the 50th, and Dowd sealed the emphatic win during the 59th with a late tally off a feed from Balmas.

Kevin Tansey’s three-assist performance earned him Man of the Match honours. With the victory, the Steelers secured two important league points.

Steelers fans will now have to prepare for a home clash against the Cardiff Devils on Saturday, hoping to build on this momentum before a well-deserved rest day on Sunday.
