The Sheffield Steelers capped off a successful four-point weekend with a tightly contested 3-1 win against the Guildford Flames in Challenge Cup action.

Following a win over the Glasgow Clan, the Steelers maintained their hot streak away in Guildford, notching up their fourth consecutive win.

Mitchell Balmas opened the scoring in the first period, marking the team’s 2,200th away goal in EIHL history.

The second period saw Sheffield surge ahead, with Robert Dowd, Great Britain international, extending the lead at the 24th minute, adding to his impressive scoring streak.

Just two minutes later, Daniel Leavens tipped a shot over the Flames’ goaltender, Eamon McAdam, who himself had a busy game, making 26 saves.

Leavens earned Man of the Match honours, while Dowd solidified his place atop the EIHL points table.

Guildford responded with a goal from Jack Jacome, but Steelers’ goaltender Matthew Greenfield’s stellar 26-save performance kept the Flames at bay.

The third period saw the Steelers grind out the win, with no goals being conceded by either side.

Aaron Fox’s side will look to use the win to build momentum heading into their midweek clash against the Dundee Stars, looking to continue their strong form.
