The Steel City Beer and Cider Festival is back for its 48th year, having started Wednesday 16th, until Saturday 19, at the historic Kelham Island Museum in Sheffield.

Organised by the Sheffield branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA), the popular event celebrates the best of beer, cider, and perry, offering a wide variety of drinks and activities in a lively, atmospheric setting.

Sarah Thompson, 54, festival attendee said: “I’ve been coming to this festival for years, and it’s always been the best time. The selection of beers is simply incredible; there’s just always something new to try. I love that it’s in Kelham Island too; the atmosphere here is just perfect.”

From traditional ales like milds, bitters, and stouts, to modern brews like IPAs and sours, the festival caters to all tastes.

The cider and perry section will also feature authentic farmhouse styles, made from freshly pressed apple and pear juice, with contributions from both artisan producers and well-known brands.

John Brooks, 75, festival attendee said, “This festival is just brilliant. There’s such a variety. I’m trying drinks I’d never normally go for. Plus, the live music and the pies really do it for me.”

This year, festival-goers can look forward to over 300 different beverages, served in a special commemorative glass. Which you can choose to take home or recycle.

In addition to the vast selection of drinks, the festival will offer an array of entertainment, including live music and a variety of street food vendors. Traditional pub games will also be available, adding to the festival’s classic British pub atmosphere.

Staffed entirely by volunteers, the event showcases CAMRA’s passion for promoting quality beer, cider, and perry. The festival is not just a celebration of drinks but a gathering for like-minded individuals who appreciate the craft behind each brew.

The Volunteers had set up a range of stalls, from ‘Helen’s Bakery’, to tombola, to home-made chocolate and crafts. The festival had it all.

CAMRA volunteer Tom Williams, 26, said, “We’ve got drinks from some amazing local breweries, and the volunteers work so hard to make this event happen every year. It’s a real community effort.”

Held in the unique setting of Kelham Island Museum, which reflects Sheffield’s rich industrial heritage, the Steel City Beer and Cider Festival promises to be a must-visit for both locals and visitors.

Whether you’re a seasoned beer enthusiast or just looking for a fun day out, this event offers something for everyone. With the event running for the next three nights, it’s not one you want to miss.
