The Times and The Sunday Times have released their list of the 16 best universities in the North and Northeast of England, with 11 institutions located in Yorkshire. The University of Sheffield has claimed the top spot in the region.

The Times and The Sunday Times’ Definitive Good University Guide offers a comprehensive resource for everything students need to know about applying to Britain’s top universities. 

It covers all aspects of student life, from campus activities and student support to managing finances and exploring career opportunities, providing invaluable insights to help students make informed decisions.

The University of Sheffield has once again cemented its position as a leading global institution, securing a place within the top 100 universities in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025.

The annual league table has placed the University 12th in the UK and 98th in the world, a rise of seven places globally from last year’s position.

The 2025 Times Higher Education World University Rankings include 2,092 universities from more than 100 countries and regions, making them the most extensive and inclusive rankings ever.

Earlier this year, the University of Sheffield was also ranked top of the Russell Group for the second year in a row in the National Student Survey (NSS), with Sheffield’s Students’ Union voted as the best SU among UK universities. 

Sheffield Hallam University was ranked 9th among universities in the North and Northeast, and 84th nationally.
