They assist with crowd management, ensure safety and work together to provide a welcoming atmosphere.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sidelines speaks to three dedicated volunteers who gave up their time to help the <a href=\"https:\/\/sidelinesmag.co.uk\/wimbledon\/\">Wimbledon Championships<\/a> run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ann Miller-McCaffrey: A Wimbledon veteran<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ann Miller-McCaffrey joined the Women\u2019s Royal Naval Service in 1987. That was&#8230; wow. The hairs on the back of my neck go up when I talk about it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Centre Court was so quiet, and then when he scored the point, the eruption of the crowd was just so loud.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the week leading up to that match, Ann had built relationships with Murray\u2019s family. She also built a connection with Roger Federer\u2019s wife, and was the one to bring  their children and nanny to the court to celebrate his win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt just shows that you&#8217;re not only doing a job, but the reputation that we&#8217;ve got as service people, the integrity and the loyalty and the honesty, I think, makes it extra special.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI think that&#8217;s what drives the club to keep us volunteering there as well, because they do get a good service from us,\u201d says Ann.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Isabelle Yung: A first-time steward at  Wimbledon Centre Court<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignright size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"720\" data-src=\"https:\/\/sidelinesmag.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2025\/05\/isabelle-yung.jpeg\" alt=\"Isabelle Yung stands smiling with her hands behind her back in her steward uniform in front of an empty Wimbledon court\" class=\"wp-image-1237 lazyload\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 540px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 540\/720;width:479px;height:auto\" data-srcset=\"https:\/\/sidelinesmag.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2025\/05\/isabelle-yung.jpeg 540w, https:\/\/sidelinesmag.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/37\/2025\/05\/isabelle-yung-480x640.jpeg 480w\" data-sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) 540px, 100vw\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Photo courtesy of Isabelle Yung<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For Officer Cadet Isabelle Yung, her experience at the highly prestigious Centre Court of Wimbledon began with a callout sent to her military branch.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWimbledon was the first Championship and sports event that I have ever worked at, so I was extra excited,\u201d says Isabelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was given the opportunity to steward at Wimbledon while part of the University Air Squadron (RAF Volunteer Reserves).\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wimbledon is regarded by many as a once-in-a-lifetime event that creates lasting memories.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe most rewarding part would be being selected to steward on Centre Court for the Men&#8217;s Final on the last day of the Championships,\u201d says Isabelle. \u201cIt felt like the perfect way to round off the two weeks.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAnother one of my highlights was seeing the Princess of Wales appear on the final day of the Championships, after her hiatus from duties due to her cancer treatment.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Royal Family has long been associated with Wimbledon and as patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club, it\u2019s the Princess of Wales&#8217; job to present the trophies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cI was part of the standing ovation that got everyone talking on social media. In the first week, there was a lot of rain, really strong winds, and hail.
