Two people are in hospital with serious injuries following a crash on the A57 near Aston.

At 12.46pm yesterday, police were called to a crash between two cars on a stretch of the road between Mansfield Road and Chesterfield Road.

It is believed that a silver Kia Rio collided with a white Ford Transit van on the westbound carriage heading away from the M1.

The 55 year old female driver and 61 year old passenger in the Kia have been taken to hospital with severe injuries.

The road was temporarily closed whilst officers investigated the crash but has since been reopened.

Police are now appealing for dashcam footage and witnesses to come forward with evidence.
