The snow has caused major disruptions to scheduled events and activites on the east side.

Only one school, Birley Academy, shut its doors for the day, but more than half a dozen other began the day late at 10am.

A number of bus services were diverted or cancelled such as buses 8, 95, 73, 20, serving the easter half of the city, with even more being affected elsewhere.

Meadowhall announced it would stay open, but warned shoppers to stay safe on the roads.

The snow started from around 7pm yesterday evening and has continued into the early hours of this morning. Despite these disruptions, many people have gone out to enjoy the brief winter wonderland.
