South Yorkshire Police have released a callout to the local community involving a fatal collision in Gleadless Townend.
The incident took place near the junction of Gleadless Road and Ridgeway Road on Thursday 24 October, at around 8:30pm.
It is understood that a man in his 40s was involved in a collision with a black Volkswagen Golf. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene.
The police believe that the vehicle will have sustained extensive damage to its front end, making it noticeable to the public.
After the incident, the driver is suspected to have fled the scene towards the S12 intake, Normanton Hill area.
They are encouraging any witnesses to come forward with information regarding the incident.
Sergeant John Taylor of the Serious Collisions Investigation Unit said: “I am urging you to be vigilant, if you have seen a damaged vehicle matching the description anywhere, please get in touch.
“A man has died, his family and friends have lost their loved one. We will not stop until we find those responsible and ensure they are put before the courts.”
