I didn&#8217;t want to dress the way my mother was dressing me, and didn&#8217;t like short hair, I didn&#8217;t fit in.\u201d She says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6233eac0840fa9b3a70e9fc130ebf50b wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI came out to a friend when I was ten without even realising what trans was. I blurted out, \u2018maybe I wasn&#8217;t supposed to be a boy.\u2019 I came out at 16, and my parents were expecting it, and then I started medically transitioning at 18. However, because of the wording trans men, so we&#8217;re talking beards, muscles, potentially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bing.com\/ck\/a?!&amp;&amp;p=210cce387a7f251e8c759c4cc3c1a57cb5322e8df7f8d2ffcb3c43ee7b4c6ddeJmltdHM9MTc0NTEwNzIwMA&amp;ptn=3&amp;ver=2&amp;hsh=4&amp;fclid=00489966-0ea4-6ba8-00a8-8c080f3b6ab8&amp;psq=definition+of+phalloplasty&amp;u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaGVhbHRobGluZS5jb20vaGVhbHRoL3RyYW5zZ2VuZGVyL3BoYWxsb3BsYXN0eQ&amp;ntb=1\">phalloplasty<\/a>, like fully intact downstairs men, are now going to have to use women&#8217;s spaces. Which means that when that becomes normalised, you expect to find people like that in women&#8217;s spaces.\u201d She says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-f229e00f8c5c54467995323d1fd8ebda wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIf cis men are sneaking around and pretending to be trans to get into spaces, all they have to do now is waltz in, because they&#8217;ll fit into that space. They don&#8217;t have to put on a dress, a hypothetical dress. They can just walk in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0963b52bbfa63088dac9521102fa005d wp-block-paragraph\">Daniella spoke on how as a transwomen she isn\u2019t safe herself and has faced negativity in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b2123291e29ad1ab16d0a4a7e17143d5 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI&#8217;ve had fractured bones and I&#8217;ve been beaten and abused. We are portrayed as monsters or creeps, or freaks. I&#8217;ve been assaulted. I&#8217;ve been threatened with rape. I feel terrified walking home alone at night, just like every other woman. I can never find a medical appointment, and no one ever listens to me. Although trans women are different, we are still women, just women with different stories.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6c4e7af47af98dc46eb2895a202d2035 wp-block-paragraph\">According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/peoplepopulationandcommunity\/culturalidentity\/genderidentity\/bulletins\/genderidentityenglandandwales\/census2021\">The Office of National Statistics<\/a>, out of 262,000 people, 0.5% identified with a gender different from the one assigned at birth, and this number includes trans men and those who identify as non-binary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0973efd50b7ffce688d252a47ea07e34 wp-block-paragraph\">Daniella expressed that trans women get an unfair portrayal in British media, considering how few trans women there are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7d24f0b76aa46751641e430753d05ac5 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThey push trans women as if we are forcing ourselves into spaces and demanding acceptance.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e9187ee71b6833cddd5fa9d5bd5e10aa wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThere are just as many trans men fighting for the right to be seen as men as there are trans women. It&#8217;s just that they don&#8217;t get publicised. And in my opinion, it&#8217;s because transphobia is inherently misogynistic. I find that transphobia in general is misogynistic.\u201d She says.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b17b7f207b915a09663722186d98b229 wp-block-paragraph\">An argument put forward for why trans women get alot of media attention is that men pretend to be trans to infultrate women\u2019s spaces but Daniella believes alot of this is installed based on fear of men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-c2ecd2edc8211d744da0518df528200b wp-block-paragraph\">She says \u201cClose your eyes for a sec. I want you to think of all the people that have catcalled you. I want you to think of the reasons why you have to carry a rape alarm at night, the reasons that you feel unsafe. Is it that you are scared of trans women? Or is it that you are scared of cis men and the idea that cis men can hypothetically involve themselves into spaces? Because that&#8217;s not what&#8217;s happening. We are less than 0.0 something of the population. We&#8217;re not the danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-67505b509b2a29d7844fbd554386d1e9 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe&#8217;ve never been the danger. Think about it. We&#8217;re not the people catcalling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-329c331b3143d9e22265a3d8c744756e wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe&#8217;re not the people following you home. We&#8217;re not the people feeling you up in clubs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-e84e6b9b7ab3fb25102ea4bc2b11e7f6 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe&#8217;re not the reason you have to cover your drinks. We never have been.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-658cc7b9fe397122707b7eaea3a8d9ed wp-block-paragraph\">It poses the question that if this new law is centred around women\u2019s safety then why is there not any new legislation around men.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-4c6edf267d5885121b22e8cf31805972 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI don&#8217;t hate the people that did this.\u201d She says. \u201cI don&#8217;t hate those women because I understand that fear. I&#8217;ve been in those situations. I&#8217;ve been terrified to walk the streets or be alone in a bar. I&#8217;ve faced that level of persecution, I&#8217;ve faced that hatred. I understand where it comes from.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-51f48c1492f3eb52c067399754ee88a2 wp-block-paragraph\">When asked what womanhood means to her she says;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-217069b1048fbe6cab0ef7a30dda1663 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWomanhood, to me, is sisterhood. Womanhood, to me, is the feminine divine. Womanhood, to me, is that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you realise your dress has pockets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-51c4403848662ed53053254c68edfd49 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWomanhood is realising that the world is not necessarily made for you, but we&#8217;ll continue to fight to get where we belong, in spaces of power, in real positions, and the fight will never end, but that&#8217;s okay, because we have a sisterhood. There are so many of us out there, and regardless of stereotypes and negativity, women always have women&#8217;s back. That&#8217;s womanhood to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b9b3cb38c69d0508ddbd118956b49375 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt&#8217;s a chain. We&#8217;re all links in a chain, standing up against oppression and breaking through that glass ceiling and fighting for our rights to be here, and to be seen, and to be known, and to be treated fairly. That&#8217;s womanhood.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6ee48f848bfd85ab118d565041a5eed5 wp-block-paragraph\">Daniella acknowledges that trans women are different to biological women and doesn\u2019t claim to be the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-0fd092050d44be060e584efa09b23c5a wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cListen\u201d She says, \u201cThe shade of the thread that binds me might be a slightly different shade of red, maybe a little bit darker, maybe a little bit brighter, but I&#8217;m still part of that thread, I&#8217;m still part of that link. We&#8217;re all intertwined.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5c02314bf4ca4a9cad17e3a81c299e94 wp-block-paragraph\">But what does that mean for the future of women in the UK?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-b94975fa2505d633cdc6fcb013d8d68b wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou are no safer now than you were before and trans people are not the enemy. The Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling has taken women\u2019s safe space, making it easier for cis men to get into their spaces. All you have done is make it more dangerous for people like me to live.\u201d She says&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-85299aa77f2933736bddc5206001ec69 wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou are directly endangering women, and this is not something to be victorious over. You&#8217;ve pushed back the feminist movement by many, many years.
