Kilnhurst & Swinton East ward By-Election: Everything you need to know

A by-election is set to take place on Thursday 2 November 2023 in Kilnhurst & Swinton East ward. With less than three weeks to go before the Election, here is everything you need to know. 

The by-Election has been called, after the need to fill a vacancy. The candidates were announced on the 6 October 2023 and include: 

  • Patricia Anita Collins, Local Conservatives
  • John Richard Gelder, Liberal Democrats
  • Nigel Harper, Labour Party
  • Peter Key, Yorkshire Party
  • Paul Neville Martin, Green Party
  • Adam Wood, Reform UK

Residents in the Kilnhurst and Swinton East ward will have until 10pm on Thursday 2 November to submit their polling card in person, which will arrive around a week prior to the election. 

The polling card will contain details of their nearest polling station, which will usually be a public building such as a school or church. 

Voters must bring a valid photographic ID to present before voting. 

Kilnhurst and Swinton East ward residents have until 11.59pm on Tuesday 17 October 2023 to register to vote if they are not already on the electoral register.

If they are unable to attend in person postal and proxy applications are being accepted. 

The Rotherham Council has stated the deadline for receiving new postal vote and postal proxy applications, and for changes to existing postal or proxy votes, is 5pm on Wednesday 18th October 2023. 

The deadline for applying to vote by proxy is at 5pm on Wednesday 25 October 2023.
