{"id":703,"date":"2025-05-28T14:40:10","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T13:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/playstyles.co.uk\/?p=703"},"modified":"2025-06-03T15:35:12","modified_gmt":"2025-06-03T14:35:12","slug":"crazy-football-shirt-lugo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/playstyles\/2025\/05\/28\/crazy-football-shirt-lugo\/","title":{"rendered":"Is this the craziest football shirt for the 2025\/26 season?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p style=\"font-size:16px\"><em>Every year, someone fines a football shirt to label the craziest of the season, and we think we&#8217;ve found an incredibly strong early contender.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may not have heard of them, but CD Lugo from Galicia, in the third division of Spanish football, will now be memorialised in pieces like this for years to come.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They&#8217;ve provided a nod to the city&#8217;s history with two new shirts &#8211; with the Roman-inspired one being particularly eye-catching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s based on the armour worn by soldiers that arrived in the city, then-named <em>Lucus Augusti<\/em>, in the first century BC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>meanwhile, the other shirt pays homage to traditional Galician aesthetics from the pre-Roman era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This isn&#8217;t, however, the first time that the club have had a football shirt of a similar ilk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They took brand integration to the next level for the 2014\/15 campaign, with a pre-match shirt in the design of a glass of beer &#8211; with Estrella Galicia as the sponsor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">CD Lugo went one better and made the whole kit beer!<br><br>Can you think of any more teams that have had a beer\/lager sponsor? <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/VNr9NAkwqA\">pic.twitter.com\/VNr9NAkwqA<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Classic Football Shirts (@classicshirts) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/classicshirts\/status\/1278358281807958019?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 1, 2020<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>This one is so iconic that it&#8217;s currently rated the best kit in the club&#8217;s history on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.footballkitarchive.com\/cd-lugo-kits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Football Kit Archive<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also, that year, gave us another option &#8211; with an octopus tentacle, as a nod to Galician cuisine.
