{"id":4548,"date":"2025-11-24T19:02:11","date_gmt":"2025-11-24T19:02:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/360wire\/?p=4548"},"modified":"2025-12-11T19:14:28","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T19:14:28","slug":"health-minister-urges-care-providers-to-adopt-epilepsy-safety-checklist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/360wire\/2025\/11\/24\/health-minister-urges-care-providers-to-adopt-epilepsy-safety-checklist\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Minister urges care providers to adopt epilepsy safety checklist"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A safety checklist aimed at improving epilepsy care has received government support from the Parliamentary Under-Secretary for Health &amp; Social Care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In parliament, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/people\/zubir-ahmed\">Dr Zubir Ahmed<\/a><span style=\"box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/people\/zubir-ahmed\" target=\"_blank\">&nbsp;<\/a><\/span>emphasised the importance of the Clive Treacy Epilepsy Safety Checklist, which aims to help community care providers ensure effective epilepsy care for individuals who also have a learning disability, autism, or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The safety tool was developed in memory of <a href=\"https:\/\/sudep.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/report_document_a4_10-11-23_digital.pdf\">Clive Treacey,<\/a> who died in 2017 at the age of 47 after suffering a seizure.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<p><iframe style=\"border: none; overflow: hidden;\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&amp;href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Freel%2F1218230426839645%2F&amp;show_text=false&amp;width=560&amp;t=0\" width=\"560\" height=\"314\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n<p>In a statement, Elaine Clarke, Clive&#8217;s sister, said: \u201cClive would have been so proud to hear his name said out loud in the House of Commons. It\u2019s hard to describe what that meant to us, but as importantly, what it will mean to the thousands of other Clives who have a right to the care and support we have described in the checklist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added: \u201cIt is our sincerest wish that the implementation of this tool will enable people with a learning disability and epilepsy to live longer and healthier lives.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The mechanism was created to improve the provision of care nationally by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/\">NHS<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.plymouth.ac.uk\/\">University of Plymouth<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/sudep.org\/\">SUDEP Action<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/midlands\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/46\/2022\/11\/Clive-Treacey-Independent-Review-Final-Report-9.12.21.pdf\">an independent review<\/a>, Clive\u2019s death was
