South Yorkshire Police have joined a national week of action aimed at tackling knife crime, as forces across the country take part in Operation Sceptre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Running from Monday 17 to Sunday 23 November, the campaign highlights the day-to-day work already carried out by officers to prevent and reduce knife-related harm across local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the week, officers will carry out intelligence-led operations, targeting habitual knife carriers, as well as open land searches and weapon sweeps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Both high-visibility and plain-clothed patrols will focus on violence hotspots, with stop and searches and vehicle stops taking place if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Neighbourhood policing teams will also visit schools and youth groups to deliver education sessions on the dangers of knife crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Detective Superintendent David Cowley, the force’s lead for knife crime, said: “Throughout the year, our officers work hard to keep you – our local communities – safe from knife crime, so this week is business as usual for us.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of the public are encouraged to dispose of knives safely and anonymously using amnesty bins located across Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
