York will come together this weekend to honour those who have served and sacrificed, as the city marks Remembrance Sunday with its annual parade and service on Sunday 9 November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rt Hon Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Martin Rowley BEM, alongside the Civic Party and City of York Council, will be leading the city’s official act of remembrance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Rt Hon the Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Martin Rowley BEM, said: “Having served in the forces with pride and as an advocate for the Armed Forces, this service holds special significance to me, my fellow veterans and service personnel.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I look forward to welcoming HM\u2019s Lord Lieutenant and all residents who join us in this act of remembrance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The military parade will set off from Clifford’s Tower at 10.20 am, travelling via the Mansion House to the City War Memorial in the Memorial Gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At 10.45 am, the Civic Party will join service personnel from regiments across York, along with invited dignitaries and local representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony will begin at 10.58 am with the Ode to the Fallen, followed by the Last Post and a gun salute at 11 am, marking the traditional two minutes’ silence, followed by prayers and wreaths laid by local organisations, led by HM’s Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire, Mrs Johanna Ropner, and the Lord Mayor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the service, the parade will return to St Helen’s Square, where the Mansion House flag will be lowered to half-mast as a mark of respect, and the Lord Mayor, Civic Party and guests will take the salute as the parade continues along Coney Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Music for the parade and service will be provided by the York Railway Institute Band and the Band of the Royal Yorkshire Regiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
