Ed Miliband has said he will take on former Top Gear<\/em> host Jeremy Clarkson if he decides to stand against him in his Doncaster constituency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The TV presenter-turned-farmer has suggested he could be a candidate for the seat in a recent social media post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Clarkson, who is originally from Doncaster, asked his followers on X\/Twitter<\/a> on 12 October: “People of Doncaster North.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAre you happy with your MP?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWould you like it if someone from your neck of the woods kicked him out?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Clarkson\u2019s Farm<\/em> star has clashed with the Energy Secretary several times over his opposition to the government\u2019s net-zero policies, raising the harmful impacts they have on the UK farming industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Miliband responded to the comments<\/a> on Sky News’ Sunday Morning With Trevor Phillips on 19 October, saying: “I think he is a sort of long-standing aspirant to my seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I think he said in 2013 that he was going to contest my seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“So, look, it’s for other people to decide if they want to stand for Parliament, including in my seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I welcome all comers. Let’s see what happens.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The former Labour leader was first elected as MP for Doncaster North in 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He won a majority of 9,126 in 2024, but recent polling figures suggest he could lose his seat to Reform UK if a general election was held today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Mr Clarkson has teased a foray into politics, though it’s not clear which party he would run for if he planned to contest the seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He hinted at standing as an independent candidate in the 2015 general election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2013 he tweeted: \u201cI’m thinking I might stand in the next election as an independent for Doncaster North, which is where I’m from. Thoughts?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Clarkson is known being very outspoken about his views on a range of issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, he claimed he could \u2018weep\u2019 over the negative impacts of Brexit, particularly relating to the red tape involved in agricultural trade with Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Mr Miliband isn\u2019t the only politician who has drawn his ire in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He has also taken aim at Reform leader Nigel Farage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his weekly column for The Sun<\/em> newspaper earlier this month, Mr Clarkson suggested that Mr Farage’s “numbers don’t add up” when he talks about his party\u2019s proposed economic policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added: “But before anyone can question his logic, he scuttles back to his safe space and starts raging about small boats.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Clarkson has previously branded Sir Keir Starmer as \u2018thick\u2019 and banned him the pub at his Diddly Squat Farm in Oxfordshire for \u2018not doing enough for farmers\u2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
