{"id":1385,"date":"2025-10-20T13:39:33","date_gmt":"2025-10-20T12:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/360wire\/?p=1385"},"modified":"2025-10-28T17:02:11","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T17:02:11","slug":"national-grid-praises-community-after-successful-supergrid-transformer-delivery-to-monk-fryston","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jusmedia.co.uk\/360wire\/2025\/10\/20\/national-grid-praises-community-after-successful-supergrid-transformer-delivery-to-monk-fryston\/","title":{"rendered":"National Grid praises community after successful supergrid transformer delivery"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Following the delivery of a 200-tone transformer to a developing electrical substation in Monk Fryson last week, National Grid confirms the operation was a success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This transformer delivery to Monk Fryston is part of the wider Yorkshire GREEN project, by National Grid, which involves the upgrade of high-voltage electricity network in Yorkshire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project hopes to play a key role in the UK-wide &#8216;Great Grid Update&#8217;, focusing on allowing cleaner energy to flow into local homes and businesses, as well as supporting net zero targets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After departing Goole Docks at approximately 8:45am, the supergrid transformer travelled along the M62 and A1 (M), before heading east along the A63. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The convoy then completed its journey by turning right onto Rawfield Lane, bringing it directly to where the Monk Fryston substation is located.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything was on schedule, with the arrival time at the substation being approximately 11:45am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A spokesperson for Yorkshire GREEN said: &#8221;Our supergrid transformers have been delivered by specialist hauliers, with all routes specifically reviewed and assessed prior to delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8221;In some areas, street furniture has been temporarily removed and parking restrictions put in place to ensure a safe and efficient journey for each delivery. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8221;The teams have therefore encountered no unexpected logistical challenges.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the transportation of the 200-tonne transformer, National Grid contacted key local stakeholders, such as parish councils, schools and MPs to ensure they were fully informed regarding the delivery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Information was also preemptively posted on the Yorkshire GREEN website, on the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgrid.com\/the-great-grid-upgrade\/yorkshire-green\/work-on-the-ground\">work on the ground page<\/a>&#8216;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yorkshire GREEN project representative said: &#8221;Many members of the community contacted our Community Relations Team, asking where they would be able to view the deliveries taking place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8221;For each delivery, local communities close to our substations were issued with a postcard, providing details of the delivery including route maps and contact information. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8221;The Community Relations phoneline was also available to call for each delivery, where callers could get up to date information of approximate timings.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The successful arrival of the final transformer marks a major step forward for the region&#8217;s energy future, with the Monk Fryston Substation expected to reach operational capability in 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work is still ongoing on the site to connect overhead wires, which will allow the substation to receive additional energy as part of National Grid&#8217;s upgrade to the high-voltage network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Monk Fryston Substation is expected to reach operational capability in 2027, with ongoing work still being done to connect new lines to receive additional energy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Following the delivery of a 200-tone transformer to a developing electrical substation in Monk Fryson last week, National Grid confirms the operation was a success.
