Sheffield City Council has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling violance against woman and girls with the publication of its latest Domestic and Sexual Abuse Annual Report.

The report outlines the city’s progress in supporting victims and survivors, improving safety, and working with partners to address abuse at every level.

It also includes support for male victims and surveys.

Councillor Fran Belgian, Deputy Leader of Sheffield City Council, said: “As a White Ribbon Council, we aim to make Sheffield a safe and equal place for all. We will never be silent about violence against women and girls in our city.”

Over the past year, the Sheffield Domestic Abuse Helpline, run by Independent Domestic Abuse Services, handled more than 11,00 calls, while 88 safe accomodation units were providede across the city.

Nearly 1,600 professionals received specialist training in domestic abuse prevention and response, and 524 young people took part in education sessions on healthy relationships and consent.

Councillor Belbin added: “This year’s annual review shows how a partnership approach has been essential to providing much needed support, that has been welcomed by those who use domestic and sexual abuse services.”

The Council’s Strategy and Resources Committee will also consider proposals for Sheffield to be reaccredited under the White Ribbon Campaign, a national initiative that encourages men and boys to take action to prevent violence against women.

As part of its ongoing White Ribbon action plan, the Council has worked to commission high-quality support for victims, survivors, and people seeking to change harmful behaviour.

It has also introduced the Safe and Together model within Children’s Services and promoted awareness of the campaign across the city, including through council tax letters, community outreach, and partnerships with schools and colleges.
