Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has died after being attacked in jail, prison sources have confirmed.

West Yorkshire Police said two men, aged 25 and 43, had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Watkins was serving a 29-year sentence at HMP Wakefield for child sex offences, including the attempted rape of a baby.

The 48-year-old was jailed in December 2013.

Officers were called by staff at the prison at 9.39am on Saturday morning to reports of a serious assault on a prisoner.

Despite medical attention he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are investigating and enquiries remain ongoing.
