“We will remember them”: Sheffield marks Remembrance Sunday with Barker’s Pool memorial ceremony
8 November 2026

Remembrance Sunday was marked at Barker’s Pool in Sheffield City Centre with a ceremony honouring the Armed Forces.

Beginning at 10.30 this morning (8 November), the ceremony features speeches, hymns and wreath laying at the war memorial in front of the City Hall.

“We remember those who were killed in action, the bereaved, the lost, the families that are shattered by war, the wounded, the maimed and injured. Those who hold in silence unspeakable memories of warfare.” said the leading speaker, before encouraging those attending to say a prayer for healing.

Laurence Binyon’s well-known war poem “For the Fallen” was also recited before two minutes of silence were observed to reflect on the sacrifices made by those who have served in war.

Veterans, cadets, serving members of the military as well as families of those and members of the public were invited to lay poppy wreaths. Hundreds of people gathered at the ceremony to pay their respects.

The Barker’s Pool ceremony was one of many taking place across Sheffield, South Yorkshire and the rest of the country to pay tribute to the millions of people who have being involved in war.
