Paul Heaton tells Sheffield Arena to “hang their heads in shame” following concert medical emergencies
7 November 2026

Former Housemartins and Beautiful South member Paul Heaton has called out Sheffield Utilita Arena for their handling of mulitple medical emergencies at his concert yesterday, 6 November.

According to eyewitnesses, the show was paused twice when members of the audience appeared to collapse. According to Heaton, on one occasion it took staff 12 minutes to bring out a defibrillator during one incident.

Taking to social media platform X, Heaton said: “I was ABSOLUTELY dumbfounded by the medical response tonight.

“The whole of the venue and their organisation should hang their heads in shame. Thankfully no-one was properly hurt but the security and medical reaction did the whole of the audience a complete injustice.”

Heaton went on to wish the crowd members a speedy recovery, and called the staff reactions to the medical emergencies “pitiful.”

360Wire reported the medical emergencies last night. Heaton was performing in Sheffield as part of his UK tour, and reportedly drew one of the arena’s biggest crowds of all time.

The cause of the medical emergencies has yet to be confirmed, though comments on social media suggest that the crowd was “packed” and “chaotic.”

Sheffield Utilitia Arena and Legends Global have been approached for comment.
