Workman threatened with axe as robbers target closed Braithwell pub

A workman was threatened with an axe when two men forced their way into a village pub near Rotherham and demanded cash, not realising it had been closed for some time.

The men got into the Butchers Arms in Braithwell this morning (Thursday) while a technician was working on the bar.

In a social media post, the pub said the pair demanded cash, made a mess and threatened the workman with an axe. They said they believed the raid was a “chance robbery”.

A spokesperson for the pub said: “The police are dealing with (the incident), everyone is safe. The technician is very shaken up.

“It appears they are doing the rounds and have targeted homes in Maltby.”

The technician is due back tomorrow to finish the work, and the pub still plans to reopen on Saturday.

South Yorkshire Police are investigating and have been contacted for comment.
