Beloved Sheffield ice cream firm re-granted licensing renewals following public petition and appeal
3 November 2026

Cuneo’s Ice Cream has been regranted its licensing for Rustlings Road and Rivelin Valley, following a public petition made against The Parks and Countryside department’s objection against renewal.

Family-run business Cuneo’s has been established since 1864, making it the oldest ice cream company in Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

Although they have regularly traded outside Rivelin Valley Park and on Rustlings Road outside Endcliffe Park, the Parks and Countryside department have objected to their licensing renewals for 4 years in a row.

Responding to the renewal, the business said in a social media post: “As you can imagine, this is great news for us and we just wanted to say a huge thank you to each and every person that has signed our petitions in support of us staying.

“Hopefully we won’t have to call on your help again next year, but we do remain doubtful that the objections won’t stop.”

Cuneo’s Rivelin Valley licensing was objected to on grounds of “competition,” and proximity to the cafe inside the park. Although the Rivelin Valley Cafe sells a small selection of ice cream, there is no other ice cream van in or around the park.

The company also previously had a van inside Endcliffe Park, but lost their pitch to another vendor in 2022. They’ve also lost pitches in Weston Park and the Botanical Gardens in past years.
