New Respect Orders have come into force today, Monday 26 October, across England and Wales, including South Yorkshire, as part of the Government’s plan to tackle persistent anti-social behaviour.
The new orders allow courts to impose restrictions on adults aged 18 and over, including curfews, bans from certain areas and requirements to attend programmes addressing drug or alcohol misuse.
Those who breach an order without a reasonable excuse could face a fine or up to two years in prison.
The government says antisocial behaviour shouldn’t be normalised or accepted. Policing minister Sarah Jones says the changes are needed to deter persistent antisocial behaviour.
