Windy weather

The Met Office is forecasting further unsettled weather across South Yorkshire, with heavy showers and strong winds expected to continue into next week.

A yellow weather warning for strong winds is also in force across South Yorkshire as Storm Boelo brings blustery conditions to the region. The Met Office warning remains in place until 9pm today, Sunday, 25 October, with strong gusts posing a risk of travel disruption, falling branches and damage from flying debris. Residents are advised to take care when travelling and secure any loose items outdoors.

Today is forecast to bring more heavy, blustery showers, with winds potentially reaching gale force in some places. Temperatures could reach a high of 11°C, with showers becoming less frequent during the afternoon.

The unsettled conditions are expected to continue into Monday and Tuesday, with bands of rain, further showers and strong winds.

The Met Office says conditions should begin to settle later on Wednesday, as winds ease and showers clear.

The unsettled weather could also bring a risk of flooding, with the Environment Agency warning that heavy rainfall may lead to surface water and river flooding in parts of England.

The Environment Agency’s flood risk update, issued at 12.10am on Sunday, 25 October, reported 14 flood warnings, meaning flooding is expected, and 66 flood alerts, meaning flooding is possible, across England.

Land, roads and some properties could be affected, with possible disruption to travel. Residents are advised to check the latest flood alerts and warnings for their local area as wet and windy conditions continue.
