Storm Austen is set to bring strong winds to parts of Yorkshire as the Met Office issues a yellow weather warning for Friday.

The warning covers parts of West and South Yorkshire, with gusty conditions expected to affect areas to the west and south-west of the county, including the area west of Marsden and the Peak District.

According to the Met Office, strong winds are expected to arrive at 10am on Friday and continue until 9pm, bringing the potential for travel disruption and difficult conditions for people heading outdoors.

Storm Austen, named by the Met Office, is a rapidly deepening area of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic. It will bring heavy rain and strengthening winds across England and Wales as it approaches.

While Yorkshire is expected to experience blustery conditions, the strongest winds associated with the storm are forecast further south, where gusts could reach 70mph in exposed areas. More widely, gusts of 50-60mph are expected across parts of western Wales and southern England.

The strongest winds are expected to ease across south-west England later on Friday morning, although much of England and Wales will remain blustery, with further spells of heavy rain throughout the day.
