Increase in Sheffield adult social care complains could be due to AI, Council says
20 October 2026

Sheffield City Council have said that a 79% increase in adult social care complains could be due to AI, as data reveals 317 new complaints were submitted during 2025/26.

Common complaints cited delays, staff conduct and quality of care. The 79% increase is compared to last year, which saw 177 complaints logged in 2024/25.

The Council report says that AI availibilty, making it easier for people to produce detailed complaints and requests, could be a leading factor in the increase. They also say that increased awareness of “right to complain” could also be attributed.

The report shows an improvement of 11 days in average response times to complaints, with the current being 40 days. They also recorded 22 compliments in the 2025/26 year.

The council have reassured that the number of complaints do not reflect a lower quality standard of services.

The complaints report will be discussed tomorrow by the adult health and social care policy committee meeting tomorrow, 21 October.
