Sheffield City Council has approved plans for part of the barracks in Hillsborough to be converted into a specialist school.

The Grade II-listed building is set to be converted for Kingfisher Academy, initially accommodating 40 pupils, with the capacity for up to 60.

The school will provide education for children and young people with additional learning, medical and mental health needs.

The conversion will preserve the historic building’s features while improving accessibility.

The plans were approved last week, but a confirmed date for the conversion to take place has not yet been announced.
