Free gambling support groups to launch in Barnsley this week
19 October 2026

From Tuesday 20 October, Barnsley Council is launching support groups for those concerned about their gambling habits.

The sessions will be available at Barnsley YMCA and Goldthorpe Library, with three sessions every week for those aged 18 and over.

These new support groups have been introduced as residents previously had to travel outside Barnsley to attend gambling support groups.

The new local groups will provide a confidential space for those struggling with gambling and make support more accessible.

Barnsley Recovery Connections has been commissioned to run a government-funded 12-month pilot.

Sessions have been organised into 12-week blocks. However, people can join at any time and do not need to book, providing flexibility for Barnsley residents.

Cllr Stan Bryan, Cabinet Spokesperson for Adult Social Care and Integrated Health, said: ā€œI’m pleased that support groups for gambling are now available in Barnsley. These new groups mean people can get free, confidential support closer to home. They will offer a space for people to talk openly and get practical help.ā€
