A long-standing Sheffield city centre shop is set to close next year after more than 50 years on Fargate.

TGJones, formerly WHSmith, will close its doors on Saturday 9 January 2027.

WHSmith sold its high street business to the firm Modella Capital in 2025, which renamed the former WHSmith high street shops TGJones.

WHSmith, however, has not gone out of business and still operates more than 1,200 shops worldwide, including shops in airports, railway stations, hospitals and motorway service stations.

Modella Capital, which also owns Hobbycraft, is now closing up to 150 TGJones shops across the UK following financial difficulties.

It is not yet known what will replace the Sheffield shop.
