Sheffield City Council has launched a public consultation on potentially expanding 20mph speed limits across the city.

The council hopes to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on Sheffield’s roads, after reporting around 300 casualties each year.

Sheffield’s current speed limit policy dates back to 2012 and focuses mainly on residential streets.

The council is now considering expanding 20mph limits to other roads to improve safety.

Councillor Alexi Dimond, Chair of the Transport, Regeneration and Climate Committee, said: “We want Sheffield residents to help shape how we approach 20mph speed limits in the future.”

Residents can share their views through the council’s online survey, which closes on Sunday 8 November.
