Wes Liddell, General Manager at Mecca Bingo Sheffield, said: “Local people in our community rely on their support dogs for daily activities and these canine companions really do give people a chance to enjoy life to the full.

“I’d encourage everyone to help this amazing cause as it really does change lives for the better and they’re doing it on our door step.”

Over 200 players took part, with 50% of the prize money also going directly to Support Dogs.

Flyers were distributed throughout the day to raise awareness of Support Dogs and encourage individuals to donate, sign up to become a puppy socialiser or sponsor a dog.

Carolyn Petch, an attendee at the event, said: “I support at least one charity a year, it’s so important to contribute to a charity like Support Dogs because they can actually save lives.

“These dogs give people a reason to get out and not shut themselves away. I know in this climate a lot of people haven’t got the spare money and it can feel difficult to donate, but if you can, in any way, it’s worth it.”

Alongside raising £110 for support dogs, the night helped Paws for a Cause meet the campaign aims of securing 15 sponsors for Peggy, and 14 puppy socialisers.

Another, Christmas-themed, group bingo event is taking place on 14 December to increase funds, sponsors and volunteers.
