South Yorkshire Mayor brings community together: What’s happening?
10 October 2025

People from across the region will be gathering at Sheffield Peace Gardens today at 3pm to celebrate community, faith and culture.

South Yorkshire Mayor, Oliver Coppard will be attending alongside other leaders from across the region.

He said: “South Yorkshire is a place defined by its strong sense of community, not by hostility or division. We are a place where people share hopes, dreams and ambitions.

“From our love of sport and music to our passion for the great outdoors, we are united by the things that bring us joy and hope.

“That’s why I’m inviting everyone across our communities to come together and reflect on all that we have in common. To celebrate our shared values and to stand firm against fear and hate.”

The event, titled ‘We are South Yorkshire’ is a chance for people to stand together and listen to an array of speeches from a number of people including representatives from faith groups and community organisers.

It will end with a closing reflection from Oliver Coppard at 4pm.
