A vigilant neighbour reported seeing two men attempting to break into a parked vehicle and police were able to arrive quickly at the scene and arrest them.
Just before midnight last night, 12 November, the two men, who were wearing balaclavas, tried to break into a vehicle on Woodlands Drive in Harrogate.
The neighbour that spotted the suspicious activity alerted police and the suspects fled once they heard sirens approaching.
Officers stopped a van nearby and found a blowtorch and a GPS jammer inside.
Two men, a 35-year-old from Rochdale and a 38-year-old from Manchester, were arrested on suspicion of attempted theft of a motor vehicle and going equipped. They remain in custody for questioning.
North Yorkshire Police have offered ‘big thanks’ to the member of the public who dialled 999 and enabled the force to respond quickly.
They have also asked that if you live in the Woodlands Drive area and have any CCTV or dash-cam footage which may have captured anything suspicious around midnight last night, please get in touch by calling North Yorkshire Police on 101.
