During the week of Remembrance Day, Armed Forces in York and across North Yorkshire have been provided with a new guide for how to access the services available to them.
These services include guides on mental health, education and employment, and housing and benefits. It also provides ways to contact charities supporting current, and past serving personnel.
The guide has been developed by North Yorkshire and the City of York’s councils for all veterans, serving members and reservists across the region.
Councillor Claire Douglas, Leader of City of York Council and Armed Forces champion said: “No one who has ever served in the Armed Forces, or their families, should be disadvantaged because of their service, and this guide shows how we will meet that commitment.”
The guide is 48 pages long, and contains a mix of advice, information, and examples of other servicemen who have benefited from the support.
It is available as both a printed version and an online eBook, and has been shared with the York and North Yorkshire Armed Forces community.
North Yorkshire Council’s Armed Forces Champion, councillor Kevin Foster said: “It’s fantastic to see the Armed Forces Covenant guide completed and ready to use.
“This has been a real team effort, showing what can be achieved through cross-party cooperation and partnership between three authorities.”
