The mother of murdered teenager Harvey Willgoose is launching a campaign to fund every secondary school in Sheffield for access to ‘bleed kits.’
Caroline Willgoose has partnered with Binning Knives Saves Lives among other CIC’s, businesses that benefit the community, to help spread the word.
Bleed kits are specialised first aid kits thats purpose is to stop any life threatening bleeding before an ambulance turns up. They usually feature dressings, gauzes and a torniquet to carry out the process.
The kits are already saving lives across the country, and with crime statistics being so high in South Yorkshire, there’s huge potential to benefit so many people.
South Yorkshire has been recorded as the area with the 3rd highest knife related offences in the country, with 10.72 offences per 10,000 residents.
CJ Barrett runs Binning Knives Saves Lives, and is rolling out Operation Lifesaver on Monday 17th November, the operation to distribute the kits to schools.
On the day, they’re going to start their first phase, which will see 15 of the 30 participating schools officially installing them in their receptions.
“When I heard about Caroline’s story and then saw her commendable efforts to make a difference to her community, I decided that I must go to Sheffield and work with Caroline to try and get bleed control kits into every school in Sheffield.”
“A massive well done to Caroline who seems to be single-handedly doing the government’s job by trying to make Sheffield safer for everyone.” he added.
360wire spoke to Knife Crime Matters, a CIC dedicated to raising awareness to knife crime, to talk about the necessity of bleed kits, and just how much they’re going to help people.
“The introduction of bleed control kits across Sheffield’s secondary schools is a truly meaningful step towards protecting young lives” they said.
“When someone is injured by a knife, every second matters. Having immediate access to a bleed kit can mean the difference between life and death.
But this campaign represents far more than just life-saving equipment — it represents awareness, education, and a community’s determination to stand together against senseless violence.”
Caroline Willgoose has also been campaigning for knife arches, opening the first last month in Penistone Grammar School in Barnsley.
The price per bleed kit is far less however, at around £100 each.
